How Brand Lift Measurement Is Evolving in a Changing Landscape

Brand Lift has always been about understanding the outcomes advertising drives in how consumers view and feel about a brand, its awareness, its appeal, and its place in their consideration.

But the landscape that shapes those outcomes no longer looks the way it did even two years ago. Consumers are discovering brands differently, media dollars are shifting into new channels, and the broader economic and political backdrop is exerting real pressure on the metrics we watch most closely.

That shift changes what Brand Lift needs to tell us. A moved KPI is no longer the end of the analysis; it's the start of one. The more useful questions are where a brand is gaining ground, what's actually driving that movement, and which outside forces might be shaping the result before creative ever enters the picture.

Four forces stand out right now.

  • AI is reshaping how consumers find and evaluate brands in the first place.

  • Creator marketing is graduating from a performance tactic into a genuine brand-building channel.

  • Political advertising tied to the midterms is reshaping media environments in ways unrelated to creative quality.

  • Economic pressure is quietly redefining what a shift in Consideration or Purchase Intent actually means.

Read together, they're a reminder that interpreting Brand Lift well means understanding not just what moved, but why.

AI is fundamentally changing brand discovery

Consumers increasingly discover and evaluate brands through AI search, recommendations, and summaries rather than traditional search alone. As AI becomes another layer between consumers and brands, brand strength may increasingly depend on being known, trusted, and differentiated enough to surface in those interactive engagements.

Creator marketing is becoming a brand-building channel

Creator marketing is evolving beyond product endorsements and sponsored posts into a more established part of the media mix. Creators offer brands access to built-in communities, trusted voices, and culturally relevant environments, allowing advertising to feel more native and personal than traditional brand messaging.

As investment grows, engagement metrics only tell part of the story. The opportunity is to understand whether that creator influence translates back to the advertiser: did the creator capture attention, or did they actually strengthen consideration for the brand?

Midterms could reshape the media environment

Political advertising can create inventory pressure, higher CPMs, and changes in reach and frequency, particularly across competitive states and DMAs. These effects won't be distributed evenly, meaning campaigns running in different markets may operate within very different media environments.

That's important context for Brand Lift: a change in performance doesn't always mean a change in creative effectiveness. The media environment and audiences being reached may have changed, too.

Economic pressure can change the meaning of consideration

Consumers can become more favorable toward a brand while remaining reluctant to purchase because of price sensitivity, economic uncertainty, or changing spending priorities. As a result, lower-funnel KPIs can face macroeconomic headwinds even when advertising is successfully improving brand perception.

This is an important distinction when interpreting results, because brand perception can improve even when purchase intent doesn't.

The bottom line

Brand measurement is most valuable when it accounts for context, not just outcomes. AI-driven discovery and creator marketing are changing how brands earn attention in the first place, while political spending and economic pressure shape the environment in which those efforts play out. The throughline across all four is the same: understanding not just what moved, but why it moved and what that tells us about the brand's position in the market.
