Introducing Leader of the Quarter: Ryan Melfi

Learn how DISQO leaders foster a culture of innovation and growth

Ryan Melfi is a Sr. Manager of Software Engineering. He strives to listen to his team of engineers, to support them in achieving their goals, and to ensure their voices are heard and valued within the company.

What’s one of your favorite or proudest DISQO leadership moments?

My favorite moments are when engineers on my team earn promotions. Promotions require dedication to improving technical skills, teamwork, and creating a positive impact on our product and organization. It makes me happy to see their hard work acknowledged and rewarded.

Sometimes our careers take unexpected turns. Were there any unexpected twists in your career journey and what lessons did you learn from those experiences?

At the beginning of Covid, I was let go from a company I had been with for many years. Being unemployed during that time was rough, but it started a sequence of events that eventually led me to a long held goal of managing an engineering team. Sometimes the unexpected can jostle us out of a local maximum.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a people leader at DISQO?

The most rewarding aspect of being a people leader is seeing my team excel. That can be personal growth in engineering skills, working together with more cohesion, or tackling hard problems that make customers excited to use our product.

When you’re not focused on DISQO, what might we find you doing?

You can find me in the mountains backpacking with my kids, on a day trip to the coast with my partner, or knee deep in a DIY home project.
